On Mother’s Day, everything’s coming up roses—even the bottle of rosé you’re toasting her with! Crepe paper petals and a couple of pieces of tape turn a bottle of mommy juice into a long-stemmed beauty that stands out from the bunch. Finished with a ribbon and a paper leaf—which can double as a gift tag—a paper flower turns a simple bottle of wine into an extra special delivery.
This flower has the power to make mom’s day, but it also blooms as a centerpiece for a girls’ brunch, or table numbers at a bridal shower (just write the numbers on the leaf!). At any gathering, set one in an ice bucket along with some real roses to let the good times blossom. And, if you’re using a screwtop bottle like this one, you can remove the paper flower intact once everyone is ready to drink pink. Just unscrew the cap and set the bloom on the table for a centerpiece that won’t wilt, even after the last toast is made.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Rose Petal and Leaf Template
- Cardstock or paper
- Crepe Paper (pink shown here)
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape
- Bottle of wine (Elouan Rose shown here)
- Hole punch
- Green ribbon
- Pencil
- Marker (optional)
HOW TO:
Step 1 Download Rose Petal Template and Rose Leaf Template and print onto paper or cardstock. Cut out both and set leaf aside.
Using the Petal cut-out as a guide, trace five petals onto crepe paper, making sure that the crinkles on the crepe paper run lengthwise along the petal, then cut. Shape petals with your thumbs—spread crepe paper ridges out more for a bigger bloom, or leave as is for tighter buds. Don’t worry too much about perfecting the petals; you can reshape them once they are attached to the bottle.
Step 2 If using a screwtop bottle of wine, wrap a layer of double-sided tape around the cap and stick petals on one by one, overlapping one another, adding more tape when necessary. (You can make a rose topper with corked bottles of wine, too, but won’t be able to remove the flower intact.)
Step 3 Punch a hole near the stem of your leaf.
Step 4 Tie leaf around the neck of the bottle with ribbon. If using it as a gift tag—or place card—write a note or a name on it.
